AIDDN Concludes A 3-Day Accessible Leadership Training Workshop

Building confident voices for self-advocacy, inclusion, and change.

The Association for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities of Nigeria (AIDDN) successfully concluded a 3-Day Accessible Leadership Training Workshop for Youths with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), held from 12–14 May 2026, with support from the Disability Rights Fund.

The workshop was designed to strengthen the leadership capacity of young persons with IDD and equip them with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to advocate for their rights and participate actively in their communities.

Throughout the three-day programme, participants engaged in interactive learning sessions focused on:

  • Leadership development
  • Self-advocacy and disability rights
  • Communication and public speaking
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Teamwork and inclusion
  • Confidence building and personal development

The training utilized accessible and participatory approaches, ensuring that every participant could actively contribute and learn in a supportive environment. Activities included group discussions, advocacy simulations, practical exercises, teamwork activities, and educational excursions aimed at strengthening leadership skills and encouraging meaningful participation.

One of the most inspiring outcomes of the workshop was witnessing participants confidently express their views, share personal experiences, and advocate for greater inclusion and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities. The programme provided a platform for young people with IDD to develop their voices and recognize their potential as leaders and change-makers within their communities.

At AIDDN, we believe that disability is not a limitation. Every individual deserves the opportunity to lead, participate, make decisions, and have their voice heard. Through initiatives such as this leadership training workshop, we remain committed to promoting inclusion, dignity, self-determination, and equal opportunities for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities across Nigeria.

We sincerely appreciate the support of the Disability Rights Fund, our facilitators, stakeholders, caregivers, volunteers, and all participants whose dedication contributed to the success of this impactful programme.

Together, we continue to build a more inclusive society where persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities can thrive, lead, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
