The Association for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities of Nigeria (AIDDN) successfully convened its Board of Trustees meeting from 28–29 April 2026. Participants arrived on 27 April and departed on 30 April 2026. The meeting was hosted by the Director of Project, Mrs Joko Omotola.

The two-day meeting brought together members of the Board of Trustees to review organizational progress, strengthen governance structures, and assess the implementation of the Safeguarding Policy on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).

Discussions focused on enhancing accountability systems, improving institutional coordination, and ensuring the consistent application of safeguarding standards across all programmes and operations. The Board emphasized the importance of strengthening internal governance mechanisms to ensure effective service delivery for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their caregivers.

A comprehensive review of the safeguarding framework was undertaken, including reporting procedures, roles and responsibilities, training requirements, confidentiality protocols, and monitoring and evaluation systems. These measures are intended to reinforce the protection, safety, dignity, and rights of persons with IDD across all levels of the organization.

The Board also reviewed accessibility arrangements for the meeting, ensuring the full participation of trustees with disabilities through appropriate accommodations and support persons. This reflects AIDDN’s continued commitment to inclusion, equity, and meaningful participation in decision-making processes.

The meeting concluded with renewed commitment to strengthening governance systems, improving coordination, and enhancing the impact of programmes delivered to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Nigeria.
