AIDDN National Election Report 2026

Overview The Association for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Nigeria (AIDDN) conducted its 2026 National Election on Saturday, March 28, 2026. The election was designed to be 100% virtual to allow for participation across all six geopolitical zones. Voting was held via the AIDDN official website.  

Election Results

All contested candidates met the constitutional requirements and were returned elected, each receiving 21 votes (52.5% of total registered delegates):

  • National President (Parent): Evangelist Dr. Babatunde Willoughby.

  • First Vice President (IDD Member): Maduka Esther Chidinma.

  • Second Vice President (Parent): Osasumwen-Eboigbe Juliet.

  • General Secretary (Parent): One Emmanuel Otueroro.

  • Financial Secretary (Parent): Ajibade Adewale Akeem.

  • Publicity Secretary / PRO (Person with IDD): Favour Morgan.

  • Welfare Officer (IDD): Opeyemi Dina.

  • Provost (IDD Member): Onaghise C. M. Oghogho.

  • Youth Leader (IDD): Isaac Samuel.

  • Women Leader (IDD): Rahmat Ahmad Bello.

(Note: The positions of Assistant General Secretary, Treasurer, and Social Secretary were not contested.)

 

Post-Election Activities

  • E-Certificates of Return are to be issued to all successfully elected candidates.

  • The IT team documented and archived the election records and results.

  • Preparations for a swearing-in ceremony conducted by the Association’s Legal Adviser are underway.

Committee Observations & Recommendations

  • Observations: The virtual platform functioned properly post-training, and the timeline extension granted by the Board was crucial to overcoming initial registration delays. Despite moderate turnout, the participation met the minimum validity threshold, ensuring a credible process.

  • Recommendations for Future Elections: The committee recommends starting delegate registration earlier and enforcing strict deadlines. They also suggest improving voter sensitization to counter apathy, ensuring earlier IT system deployment, and providing clearer communication regarding dues compliance.
