World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), observed annually on March 21st, is a global awareness day focused on raising awareness about Down syndrome and promoting the rights, inclusion, and well-being of people with Down syndrome

I am delighted to join the global community in celebrating World Down Syndrome Day today, Friday, March 21st. This day is dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for the rights, inclusion, and well-being of Persons with Down syndrome.

Theme: “Improve our Support System”

This year’s theme emphasizes the importance of inclusive decision-making and ensuring that Persons with Down syndrome are active participants in their communities. It is a call to action for all of us to work alongside persons with Down syndrome, recognizing their abilities and contributions.

Color: Blue and Yellow

We encourage everyone to wear blue and yellow, the official colors of Down syndrome awareness, to show your support and solidarity.

About Down Syndrome:

Down syndrome is a naturally occurring chromosomal arrangement that has always been a part of the human condition. It affects approximately 1 in 800 live births worldwide. Persons with Down syndrome have an extra chromosome, which impacts their development. However, with the right support and opportunities, they can lead fulfilling and productive lives.

Let us celebrate the unique talents and achievements of persons with Down syndrome and continue to advocate for a more inclusive society where everyone is valued and respected.

Join us in spreading awareness and love by sharing this message on your social media platforms and engaging in activities that promote understanding and acceptance.

Together, let’s make a difference!

Happy Celebration.

Mrs Joko Omotola
National President, AIDDN.
